Updated - October 28, 2026 at 09:22 PM. | MumbaiVedanta Aluminium achieved its highest-ever quarterly aluminium production of 6.49 lakh tonne, up 5 per cent year-on-year
Vedanta Aluminium Metal, India’s largest aluminium producer, reported that its net profit (attributable to owners) in the September quarter doubled to ₹5,167 crore against ₹2,373 crore logged in the same period last year, on back of better realisation and improved efficiency.
Revenue increased 41 per cent to ₹22,066 crore (₹15,670 crore). EBITDA was up 83 per cent at ₹10,192 crore.
Vedanta Aluminium achieved its highest-ever quarterly aluminium production of 6.49 lakh tonne, up 5 per cent year-on-year. Value-added production reached a record 4.32 lakh tonne, increasing 31 per cent y-o-y, while alumina production was up 37 per cent at 8.95 lakh tonne. The company targets to achieve aluminium production of 26 lakh tonne this fiscal.
During the quarter, the second zone of the 4.35 lakh tonne per annum Balco expansion was operationalised and consent to operate was obtained for the Sijimali Bauxite Block.
Rajesh Kumar, Whole-Time Director & CEO, Vedanta Aluminium, told businessline the aluminium supply side was little better with Alba (Aluminium Bahrain) restarting smelter operations, but on the other side what will happen post-November 3 (mid-term election in US) remains to be seen.
The company focuses on operational efficiency than focusing on pricing and improving captive sourcing of raw material, he said.
On backward integration, the company has tied up 80 per cent bauxite requirement for one million tonne of alumina.
“We expect domestic bauxite supply to increase once Sijimali bauxite mines becomes operational in Odisha. The coal block at Kuraloi (Jharsuguda district of Odisha) will become operational in this quarter while Ghogarpalli (Sundargarh district in Odisha) coal block will start producing next quarter, he said.
Domestic sourcing
Currently, Kumar said 40 per cent of bauxite requirements are sourced domestically and imports account for the remaining.
“The domestic bauxite sourcing is cheaper by $15-20 a tonne and our target is to raise domestic sourcing to 60 per cent from 40 per cent in Q3 and further to 75-80 per cent by end of this fiscal,” he added.
Similarly, the producer gets 2.5 million tonne of captive coal mine and remaining comes from coal linkages with fixed cost. The company did not face any coal shortage during the monsoon as it has built up the inventory and kept the captive Jamkhani coal mine on reserve for the monsoon period, he said.
